The Big One

The Big One

When the Rabbits beat the Broncos
way back at seasons start.
They said there is no pathway back
this team just has no heart.

But they pulled themselves together
and faced their greatest test.
Now they are playing in the final
and will show them who is best.

The first test was the Cowboys
and the game moved up a gear.
When that final whistle blew
I let out an inner cheer.

Next they just beat the Roosters
How they made poor Jennings howl
Did you see the look of utter grief
on the face of Kenny- Dowell? .

As he threw that pass to Darius
did you hear the fans all roar ?
Their plan was pass the ball to Sheck
and just hope he might score.

Against the flow of penalties
the Bronco’s had no luck.
They weren't the only team
holding players in the ruck.

Ferguson well he got two
cause he can play well on his day.
Then Hunt and Miff they took control
well what more can I say

So now the big ones looming
that last and final test.
An all Queenslander final
The best against the best.

The Broncos and the Cowboys
but can Thurston break their drought ?
He’ll need to top the young blokes
of that there is no doubt.

The Broncos are my team
so I’m hoping for a win
but if the Cowboys take it out
it won’t be such a sin.

The best our game can offer
standing tall on centre stage.
History in the making
as these young blokes come of age.

So sit back and enjoy it
cheer and scream with every call.
A showcase of the future
for The Greatest Game of All.

I'm with you Bob, Broncos are my team but if Cowboys win then won't be too upset - reckon JT deserves a premiership as he is one of the best to ever pull on a boot.

But . . . . greatest game of all - ?? - sorry mate, that tag goes to the game at the MCG Saturday arvo: Go Hawks, here's hoping for a hat trick of wins (three-peat is too Yankee-fied for me). All in all . . . a big weekend of celebration of our sport (feel the love, Nev :P )

Great poem Bob, really enjoyed it, but I think it should be "who is the best," not, "whose the best."

Bob, Marty. The worst thing about these football finals is that it means we now face months of sleep inducing cricket and the greatest horror of all; professional tennis egomaniacs.

Marty, You've got to tune into ABC Classic FM to feel the love. ;) :)

Touché  . But then I wouldn't try to persuade the government to turn the SCG into an opera theatre. :)

I've still got most my hair Neil, but the corrugations are getting pretty deep mate.

Cheers Terry
