Trffic Trisha! Luv it. Recently had to show a young person behind a counter a document and she asked if I could read it to her as she "Didn't do running writing."
I mentioned here a couple of years ago the conversation I had with a young school teacher who told me that she did not believe in teaching history as it was pointless.

These are isolated incidents I know, but as we have never before spent so much money on the education system, isn't it about time that we had a full and frank inquiry to see what is going wrong with our schools?

How can we be turning out people who cannot read and write?

I am beginning to think that some of the younger teachers today should be trained under the old system of education. If they can't teach effectively, then what hope have the students got? With all the technology around, you would assume that we would have brilliant young academics, but not so. It has made them mentally lazy. Half of the kids leaving school now would not be able to effectively write a letter for a job application for example, with correct grammar, spelling and legible hand writing...they are too used to computers doing it for them. Very sad!

Trisha, couldn't agree more. While we (and the students) have been told that spelling and grammar are no longer important both are obviously of the utmost importance when it comes to expressing yourself in writing. Those who cannot communicate their thoughts in writing are in fact totally disadvantaged and defenceless.

Reading this was just a sheer joy.
