Melancholy Moments

Post by thestoryteller » Fri Jun 17, 2016 7:19 am

Sometimes I would think of old England, Father and my half-brother, Frederick, and get a little homesick. Fred and his wife though treated me just like one of the family, which compensated for those melancholy moments. The time spent with them was two good years and an invaluable part of my learning process. Since my arrival in Sydney some four years previous, I was slowly adjusting to this new way of life.

MELANCHOLY MOMENTS

At times reflections flood my mind
of England ‘cross the sea.
To childhood days before the War
with mum and dad and me.

Those short but happy memories
before my dear mum died.
The time my dad marched off to war
and tears I could not hide.

My step mum who though young in years
was truly kind of heart
and little baby brother Fred
I loved right from the start.

Those melancholy moments how
they seem to get me down.
A lad so young gets homesick for
my home in London Town.

But all my friends around me though
all help me ride it through.
Such decent folk who seem to care
who know just what to do.
