Homework 17th Feb

Post by Catherine Lee » Tue Feb 11, 2020 6:40 pm

Solace

Beneath the towering eucalypt, against an azure sky
I took a moment, pondering on life and times gone by,
reflected on the voice of nature, poetry of sounds;
enjoyed the utter beauty of the peaceful, lush surrounds,
embraced the timeless sense, the sparkling creek, the joyful birds,
the harmony that seemed just too immeasurable for words.

I thought about mistakes I’d made, the people I had known,
collections of the smiles and tears and how the years had flown—
on how I came to know myself through heartache, joy and pain,
decisions made to steer my course, and every loss and gain.
The humbling mood assailed me of the fleeting human span;
beneath this endless sky, this ageless tree - was just a man.

My humble insignificance within the higher scheme
assailed me with the question of my worth, each task and dream…
Yet gradually the quiet setting did its matchless part,
and whispered to my doubting and regretful, guilty heart
the calming pledge of grace and hope in future certainty—
the comfort that exists with faith in immortality.

Thanks so much Maureen - I really hit a wall and wasn't sure if I'd produce anything or even if I should post this result when I did, so your very kind comment has made me feel a great deal better today!

Very profound, Catherine. I love how Maureen’s varied prompts bring out different aspects of our personalities through our craft.

Cheers

Thank you Shelley - yes, they certainly do! They are such a wonderful challenge and major benefit to us all, keeping our imaginations alive and hands in even when we are feeling less than capable of producing anything at all!

Good to see you having a go Catherine. I was reading a book by a well established poetry teacher, who said that if you have hit a wall then you should know that every writer great and small has hit the wall at some stage. She named a few very well known names of those who have confessed that they struggled with not knowing where to begin.
Another notable poet ( cant think of the name ) said that if you don't know where to begin, begin anywhere. :lol:
