Homework August 8 2019

Post by Neville Briggs » Tue Jul 30, 2019 9:13 am

WINTER DREAMS

Wild wild the wind will blow
to freeze your ears and frost your nose,
the fog lights flash where streets consist
of grey and muffled morning mist,
where trees take on a darkened tone.
Yet we’ll be warmed till winter’s done,
the bacon bones are bubbling hot
with peas all pleasant in the pot.
Let’s sip some scotch with ginger wine
and dream the days of summer time.

Thanks Maureen  just remember that scotch and green ginger wine is for sipping, not recommended for quaffing, :o :o

Thanks Terry, very kind comment.

Thanks for the comment Catherine,

Again I did a bit of borrowing from the past, my research is that the old Viking Anglo-Saxon poets wrote unrhymed alliterated lines of 8 stresses with a caesura before fifth stress. Boewolf is the famous one.
I did it slightly different, 4 stresses each line with end rhymes. It ain't easy I can tell you.

Well done, Neville! I love it! It reminds me just a bit of Shakespeare's "Winter" from "Love's Labour's Lost".

By the way, what time is dinner? I'll be there ...

Cheers
