Homework 8th August

Post by Catherine Lee » Mon Jul 22, 2019 8:12 pm

It’s bleak at four - the darkness comes, I watch the day decline
and pour myself an ample dose of scotch with ginger wine;
I’ve boiled the bacon bones awhile to make some hearty soup—
some garlic bread will energise and shake my weary droop.
With bed socks on my feet, a mohair rug across my knees,
despite the chill I’m armoured snug against these low degrees.
The clock ticks loudly in the hall, time’s marching swiftly past;
the cat is roused, he stands and yawns - an arching shadow’s cast.
As fog lights twinkle through the gloom and night begins to fall,
I draw the curtains firmly, close them tight on winter’s call.
I’m sheltered from approaching season’s chill, no wish to roam—
on days like these I’ll exercise my will to stay at home.

G/day Catherine
Better stich to the soup and watch that scotch and ginger wine - too much can lead you astray ... I'm told!
I was wondering what sort of varied stories we'd all weave - Keeping warm to beat the cold seems come through though.
You have made excellent use of the prompts as usual too - Always enjoy reading yours Catherine.
Cheers

Terry

Thanks so much, Terry - I really appreciate your kind comments... And yes, these particular prompts do seem to have us all on the same page with the images conjured up by the memories of tasty soup and other delicious treats..and of course, certain beverages!

Must be a winter thing Catherine - our minds become food orientated and we start cooking :lol: simply because it is to bloody cold to venture outside unless we really have to. I am also guilty of hibernating :lol:

Thanks, Maureen...It's been a very long time since I went through a winter, but sometimes I feel as if I miss it because this heat here is so exhausting, so I hibernate some days for the opposite reason...with salad instead of soup!

Thank you very much for your kind comments also, Neville. I sincerely wish you all the very best for your op, and will be thinking of you xx

Thanks Catherine. :)

A friend of mine works fly in fly out, three weeks in Jakarta and one week back in Australia each month, It must be hard for him to spend that week n the cold then back to Indonesia for tropical warmth.

Thanks Shelley - and yes, definitely memories of NZ...I still have two of Mum and Dad's woven mohair rugs, but rarely use one unless I'm sick and/or the air-con is up high! :lol:
