H/work for w/e 15.4.19 - Compliments of the Season

COMPLIMENTS OF THE SEASON .. Maureen Clifford © The #ScribblyBark Poet

The April showers have come at last, the earth now is replenished
with shoots of green everywhere seen, stand proudly and unblemished.
The dams are full, and rising creeks once more make merry laughter
as over rocks they flow and fall and tumble merrily after
a stray leaf floating on the tide as it drifts slow downstream.
We thank the bloke upstairs for rain, for heeding the earth's scream.

Grey shadows drift across the creek - it's cool there in the shade,
an artist notes a sweet mélange of blue, orange and jade,
where falling leaves are turning gold as cooler weather comes
and ferns in shaded nooks are like green jade beneath the gums
whilst in the creek, more tranquil pools reflect the sky so blue
as if its beauty's not enough - it adds another hue.

The artist looks, he contemplates, he takes note of the weather
and wonders why it seems the world has more fools now than ever.
The lovely fickleness of youth has gone and long departed,
he's seen his three score years and ten , life's not for the faint-hearted.
He's seen the climate change take hold throughout his many years,
and in his heart of hearts he knows Mother Earth weeps sad tears.

But he is just a simple man and no power does he hold.
He lives his life as best he can and he wears no blindfold
to hide from human follies, he lives in tune with the soil,
and grows most everything he needs, reward for honest toil.
His heart is full with gratefulness to see the earth replenished ...
he paints and captures her beauty , renewed and quite unblemished.

I can relate to this Maureen - the poet's eye and the artist's eye are often alike!

As John Keats wrote " the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness " . The countryside at Bathurst NSW is a wonderful autumn vista for artists.

You're right Maureen after three score and ten, life is not for the fainthearted.
