DEADLY

DEADLY ... Maureen Clifford © The #Scribblybark Poet

Seems Mother Nature's mighty pissed off with folks in Australia
her ire's unleashed on man and beast from Queensland to Tasmania -
from drought to flood in just ten days and Queenslanders are reeling,
whilst folk in Tassie all breathe smoke as bushfire's heat they're feeling.
In Sydney they are lashed by storms and heavy rains are pelting.
Victoria is sweltering with folks there fairly melting
and West Australia's not exempt they too have heavy weather
though strange to say that Darwin is still keeping it together.

We love our sunburnt country with her empty spreading plains,
but by God it is a nightmare when she's soaked by flooding rains,
when there's no safe, high place for stock, with water getting higher,
then the situation is quite grim. Things now are looking dire.
We love our wondrous Southern land - the one that's girt by seas
but at times like this she humbles us and brings us to our knees.
We have shown scant regard for her - so is this her revenge?
An unleashed Armageddon inflicted now to avenge.

We've rivers full of dying fish, outback towns without water,
we've polluted her oceans and we've condoned brumby slaughter
We've made the possums homeless and we've starved the kangaroo,
the wombats, bilbys, koalas are all now struggling too;
their homes and food has vanished - and some have no strength to dig
whilst the only thing that flourishes on death is the wild pig,
who has carcasses to feast on, though with raptors shares the spoil
of this golden soil under attack - we'll need wealth now for toil.

We've fracked and mined and decimated forests, killing trees
that were her lungs, and carbon sinks - no wonder she's displeased.
So now we need to draw a breath and look, and see her wonder.
To listen to her warnings, to the growl of distant thunder.
To nurture and to propagate, to clean away pollution.
To take responsibility, show lasting resolution
There is but one earth that we share - and it's not ours to squander.
We can do better. Why we don't - oft' causes me to wonder

There is no wonder Maureen, we worship at the altar of the unrelenting demand of "The Economy "

A friend of mine lives near Hobart at the water and tonight ( 2 March ) its 31 degrees at 8pm. Unbelievable !!!!
