That Little Stone Hut in the Snow

That Little Stone Hut in the Snow

When life in the city seems ruthless and fast,
In my mind there’s a place I can go
Where I know I can find some contentment at last –
That little stone hut in the snow.

With a door that is solid to keep out the gale,
No matter how hard it might blow,
It’s an antidote certain that never will fail,
That little stone hut in the snow.

When the rush and the bustle seems never to stop,
I work in my mind to evoke
The scene of the fire with the chimney up top,
And the sweet little column of smoke.

There’s a table for meals, there are forms where you sit,
There are bunks by the opposite wall,
And the scene by a lantern or candle is lit,
If there be any lighting at all.

There’s a pot on the fire with a nourishing stew,
A billy for mugs of hot tea,
With a couple of gum leaves thrown in to imbue
It with scent of the eucalypt tree.

There are clothes hung to dry on a line high above,
There are boots on the hearth down below.
It’s an image of peace that I tenderly love,
That little stone hut in the snow.

Can I go there now, please? You really set the scene for escape, Stephen!

Love these lines ...
When life in the city seems ruthless and fast,
In my mind there’s a place I can go
Where I know I can find some contentment at last –
That little stone hut in the snow.
I guess we all have a favourite retreat - even if mine seems to be the teapot lately!

Cheers

Thanks, Shelley, but I should warn you - it's not in Queensland! (I expect you might have guessed...)

Really? I'll just have to visit Victoria again, then!

Mind you, we do have snow in Queensland ... every so often! That's the time to be in Stanthorpe, sipping Moonshine Madness liqueur in front of a roaring fire at one of the region's famous wineries ... or so I'm told ;)

Cheers

Beautiful ... but cold! Certainly not a place where you’d want your doona to go on nightly excursions! :o

No, Shelley - definitely sleeping bag territory!
