Homework WE 11/9/17 - The Task

Post by Shelley Hansen » Mon Aug 28, 2017 9:08 pm

"Que?", I hear you say. Well, what else do you expect at this time of night (yawn) ?? :|

THE TASK
(c) Shelley Hansen 27/8/17

With pencils poised we fuel the fight
for what we call “bush verse” -
inspired by Aussie life and land
for better or for worse,
and those who heed may hear the cry
ring out from north to south -
from grass tree plain to frosty ground
we spread by word of mouth
the poetry of nature’s moods
the tales both tall and true
of times gone by, of fears we face,
of mates who are true blue.
We don’t aspire to abstract blurb
or mix our metaphors -
so snakes that slither silently
don’t disobey the laws
to justify a random rhyme ...
and so, before you ask,
I think I’ll quit while I’m ahead
and tick “completed task”!

Indeed we do, Shelley...a great battle cry at any time of the night or day!

Task completed indeed - and very well I might add :D Good on you Shelley - you always manage to produce a gem from my sometimes rather rough prompts. Good job.

Thanks Maureen - thought I'd try a somewhat whimsical reference to the current discussions about the relevance of bush poetry! ;)

Never let a chance go by (as Bob Hudson sang ... do you remember?)

Cheers

Ah.. the Newcastle song. Where I live, work and play.
Because you contributed such a great poem, Shelley

Yes, Wendy - the Newcastle Song indeed!

Twin overhead foxtails ... those were the days! ;) I was devastated the last time we came to Newcastle to find that the Parthenon Milk Bar is no more! :(
