As would be well known, The Waltzing Matilda Centre Mark 2 in Winton is opening in April. A $22million re-build.

It has been advertised on TV etc and so the promoted opening Festival 19th - 22nd April would be well known.

As far as I can see there is no official Bush Poetry event or bush music associated with the festival, but I may well have missed it in which case please post details.

That would not stop any ABPA members letting others know on here that they will be there, and getting together for The Real Thing (bush poetry).

Speaking of The Real Thing.. Russell Morris will be performing!
For those who admit to remembering Russ.. with his amazing vocal range.
"I am the Real Thing..oooh maoh ma maoh maoh etc" c1969

The Historical Society together with other volunteers have been working hard to restore whatever was restorable from the fire. Plus some generous donations added.

All I know about the Main Centre from a Winton council rep. is that there are two Exhibition Rooms. One for Art and one for various temporary exhibitions that move around the State. Somehow there is a curved corridor that leads you to the Swagman mock-up in the centre, with squatters, troopers, thoroughbreds plus the jolly jumbuck and hapless swagman. It apparently is very well done indeed!!! .. Waltzing Matilda.

There is a map of the Centre which shows a small outdoor theatre, cafe etc.

A new Waltzing Matilda Centre General Manager has just been appointed. Mr. Cameron MACE .. who was apparently general manager at The Longreach Stockman's Hall of Fame for a number of years.

Anyway... that's about it. Sounds very good.
