Healesville Music Festival and Poets Breakfast

Post by Gary Harding » Thu Oct 26, 2017 12:43 pm

Healesville Music Festival (70km north of Melbourne) 10, 11, 12th November.

http://www.healesvillemusicfestival.com.au/artists.html

The Poets Breakfast ... starting at 9.00am on the Sat and 9.00am on the Sunday, compered by Gary Caulfield. I will be going along to both mornings.

The Shearer's Tally Bush Band is playing for the Festival Dance on Saturday afternoon, 2.30pm - 4.30pm on the racecourse.

I have been invited to play with Shearer's Tally for this dance and am excited about joining the band again.

The bush-dances are set-dances and taught on the spot. Repeated steps, and very easy to learn.

If bush dancing is not necessarily your scene, then why not just come along and listen to two hours of toe-tapping music courtesy of The Shearers Tally Bush Band. Free entry!

The Healesville Poets Breakfast is an opportunity for ABPA performing poets to show their great talents... and newbies to have a go too.

So why not rock along for a really fun time!! I look forward to meeting and yarning with lots of ABPA members there.

..... cheers, Gary Harding.

I am told that at the Healesville Poets Breakfasts (9.00am - 10.45am, racecourse) there is no requirement to necessarily memorise lines like the pro's do. If you want to read something, that is fine, so the fear of forgetting words is removed. Pretty relaxed. Also the Saturday poets session, like the dance, is Free! i.e. non-ticketed.

Just getting up there and having a go is the main thing. What a good way to really get into performing your bush poems and perhaps starting your poetic career!!

Audience reception is guaranteed to be positive and encouraging.

The attendance at the two hour Bush Dance on Saturday afternoon will likely be about a thousand people. So one can have a go at bush dancing and be lost in the crowd i.e. not be obvious. The dances chosen will include some simple and easy ones because there will be a number of children there. What a fun afternoon it will be..!

All the best, Gary - for a successful weekend. It is such a beautiful part of the country!

I hope you get the chance to visit The Singing Gardens and Tearooms at Toolangi while you are there. It is certainly worth the drive to see this beautiful property owned by CJ Dennis - and to spend a little time just experiencing the sights and sounds that inspired his beautiful last anthology.

Cheers

Thanks Shelley,

I had not noticed that Toolangi is only 20 mins drive from Healesville!! So close, but unfortunately I will not have a car to visit C J Dennis territory!

I am flying down Friday and staying in nearby Mooroolbark.. getting an early start for the poets event at 9.00am on Saturday ..then setting up for and performing at the afternoon dance event.
Much the same for Sunday, a full working day at the Music Festival. Then flying back to Qld on Monday. Pretty rushed.

However if I am back at Healesville next year, I will plan to include a trip to beautiful Toolangi afterwards!... and have a longer stay in Victoria too! Thank you for the thought!

A film of the Bush Dance is being produced so if there is any interest I might see if I can put a clip of it on the Forum, with maybe a grab of the Poets Breakfast too.. especially if any fellow ABPA members are reciting.

cheers, Gary

I would like to acknowledge Jeff Dowlan's contribution to the Poets Breakfast at Healesville via this pic. He told me that he is a new ABPA member, however judging by his great presentation skills, I suspect that he has done this sort of thing before(!) and is likely well known around the performance traps, which I sadly do not get around to much.

Well done Jeff and many thanks for your extremely polished and capable contribution to the Festival !!
