FOR OUR WRITERS
ABPA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS run by the WEST AUSTRALIAN BUSH POETS AND YARNSPINNERS ASSOC.
WRITTEN COMPETITION
The entry form and conditions for submission for the written component of the National Championships will be available for download from the ABPA Website http://www.abpa.org.au Events and Results, within the next couple of days. The closing date for the Written is 6th October, 2017.
Thank you to Meg Gordon and the WA organisers for supplying this information and for all the hard work that is going on behind the scenes.

The performance championships will be held in Toodyay, WA from Friday 3rd November - Sunday 5th November, 2017. Meg will be sending through details of these championships as soon as available.

FOR OUR YOUNG WRITERS
Another exciting aspect is that this written competition has two Junior sections 5-12 years and 13-17 years.
This is a great opportunity for our talented young writers to enter a national competition. Don't be shy -- it would be wonderful to get lots of entries in these categories. Thank you to the West Australian Bush Poets and Yarnspinners for including the youth in this way.

A selection of poems in the 5-12 years and 13-17 years will be published in the Australian Bush Poets Association magazine and also the Free XpresSion Literary Magazine and the E-Muse on-line newsletter.

The entry form and conditions are available for download from the website as sent by Meg Gordon from the WA organisers. There is a slight change to the conditions for submission so if you have already got your copy, please note that if critique/s are required you also need to send an A4 ssae with $2 postage and, because it is a National Championship with three judges, four copies of the poems are required not two.
Just the messenger -- all queries to go to Meg.

Thanks so much for this Brenda.

For the benefit of all, here are a couple of observations regarding the terms and conditions of entry.

- No line limit is stated. Hopefully this has not been inadvertently omitted. Terms and conditions usually state even if there is no line limit.

- A trap for the novice (I was caught by this in a past WA Championship) - Section 5 of the Terms and Conditions states: "Entries must have very good rhyme and meter and be an original story with an Australian theme." Note the word "story". This means entrants may well lose marks for a purely descriptive poem (as opposed to a narrative) - as I did.

All the best to everyone planning to enter!

Cheers
Shelley

Hi All

Please note that a revised entry form for the ABPA written championships has now been uploaded to the Events and Results page.

If you had already downloaded the previous version, please discard and replace with this updated form. There are slight changes to the terms and conditions, so please read carefully before entering.

By the way, further to my previous comment on this thread, both descriptive and narrative poems are now acceptable for this competition and there is no line limit.

Please also note this latest advice: Four copies of each poem are to be submitted for adult entries, but juniors do not have to send four copies of their poems.

Cheers
Shelley
