Runner up Bill Gordon
3rd place Irene Conner

To qualify for the WA Champion Bush Poet, you needed to enter the three qualifying categories of Traditional, Own Humorous and Own Serious - with the highest aggregate score winning.

It was great to see the awards spread out over a number of the entrants, rather than just one person scooping the pool, and that was indicative of the standard of the competition. A big congratulations to the award winners, and also to everyone who entered the events - it was a great weekend of bush poetry and yarnspinning.

The winners of the Boyup Brook Written competition that was run in conjunction with the Country Music Festival are as follows:

Open
1st - Legacy of a Bushfire - Brenda Joy. Qld

Highly Commended:
The Old Mine - Terry Piggott - WA
Nullabor Dreaming - Brenda Joy. QLD

Commended:
The Black Pearl - Val Read. WA
The Christmas Gift - Terry Piggott WA
Old Man Dreaming - Val Read. WA

The Emerging Poet
1st - And the Poppies Dance - Heather Knight. Vic

Highly Commended:
The Last Post - Heather Knight. Vic

I will be posting out the judges sheets to entrants this week. (I hope!! lol)
Thank you to all who entered poems - there were other poems that could have won in another forum, but unfortunately, the judge has to make a choice somehow.

..
Huge Congratulations to Heather for her double in the emerging poet section.
Now you can't go in the novice section and have to mix it with the rest of us. That's the only down side.

and last (but not by design) of all from me (for this morning)

Terry.... what a dark horse you are, sneeking in with a HC and a C. Congratulations and Well done. I hope you will be able to post one of the poems for us to read. I hope you are feeling some satisfaction for all the hours spent both on the site and off, studying and sharpening up your 'pen'. Well done and keep them coming. It must be getting so close to a number one for you.

Also to Val Read, another member of this site, Congratulations to you. You are yet another one of the names often seen in the top bunch. Well done again.

Now I will have to try to read all the winners and see if any horse poems featured.

See....?
The judges DO get it right sometimes!
Just confirming what we already knew. The cream always comes to the top.

Congratulations Irene, Heather, Val, Terry and Dave. Played hard, done good.

Cheers, Will.
