Reap’n Sow

25 - Reap’n Sow

Population explosion,
right around the globe,
so many people starving,
to be fed.
Need is never ending,
farming on the edge,
meat, eggs, milk and cheese,
and grain, for making bread.

Time is out the window,
working day and night,
days off can be counted,
on one hand.
In and out of tractors,
headers and the like,
never ending cycle,
plowing land.

Man has been creative,
results been hit and miss,
first recorded plantings,
dug by hand.
Horse and plow, impressive,
tractors now can pull,
cleared and planted,
so much virgin land.

Strategise, economise,
risking life and limb,
guaranteed to grow,
given rain.
Paddocks on rotation,
what to sow, and when,
up and down,
round and around again.

Operational, nightmare,
much to watch and learn,
farming has gone hi-tech,
all on show.
Computers reading sensors,
recording every inch,
applications changing,
on the go.

Navigational, steering,
satellite, online,
costs are up, production,
marking time.
Farming is a lifestyle,
and a business, not for all,
shops and shelves to fill,
for all mankind.

Population explosion,
right around the globe,
so many people starving,
to be fed.
Need is never ending,
farming on the edge,
meat, eggs, milk and cheese,
and grain, for making bread.
