Lest We Forget

32 - Why War

ANZACS, to commemorate,
diggers gone before,
those who served and lost their lives,
in an unforgotten war.
Life is such a privilege,
be grateful, every day,
give thanks to those who’ve come and gone,
in tribute, bow and pray.

It all just seems so senseless,
why countries go to war,
how and why, in overload,
just what they do it for.
Too much power and money,
dictate when and where,
orders given by so few,
millions in despair.

Innocent women and children,
the elderly and the aged,
those that cannot help themselves,
all caught up in the rage,
So much death and destruction,
orders to stand and fight,
so much blood let, on both sides,
cut down, both day and night.

I just sit back in wonder,
can only shake my head,
and feel the pain for those poor souls,
the injured, maimed and dead.
There has to be another way,
the world must see to reason,
law and order must shine through,
give peace on earth, this season.
