There's a Wombat on the Ski Run

There’s a Wombat on the Ski Run

There’s a wombat on the ski run, but it isn’t wearing skis,
And it won’t respond to orders you might shout, like “Bend the knees!”
It doesn’t have a lift pass, and it doesn’t ride the chair,
And it’s reasonable to wonder what it thinks it’s doing there.

There’s a wombat on the ski run, and it’s running its own race,
And it doesn’t seem to worry if it isn’t in first place.
It is digging, simply digging, for that’s what wombats do,
And it hardly is surprising when you think the matter through.

There’s a wombat on the ski run of considerable girth,
And it’s dug right through the snow and now it’s digging through the earth.
It isn’t too convenient for skiers on the hill,
But I’m not inclined to argue, for I’m not a total dill.

There’s a wombat on the ski run. It is quite oblivious
To charging skis and boards. It doesn’t mean to make a fuss.
We are all but visitors in wombat territory.
There’s a wombat on the ski run, but I think I’ll let it be.

Love it! Perfect photo, too - is it one of yours?

Your poems about Aussie animals are rolling off the pen, Stephen!

Cheers
Shelley

Thanks, Shelley. Yes, I took that photo back in the 80s.
