Because it seemed so out of place...
Because it seemed so out of place…
Today as I walked, mile on mile,
I thought I saw a crocodile.
Because it seemed so out of place,
I didn’t change my walking pace.
I sallied on without a care,
Pretending that it wasn’t there.
Today as I walked by the lake,
I thought I saw a carpet snake.
Because it seemed so out of place,
I thought I would dismiss this case.
I didn’t stop to turn and stare.
Besides, there were no carpets there.
Today while walking, quite by chance,
I thought I glimpsed a brolga dance.
Because it seemed so out of place,
I didn’t look it in the face.
I left it to its mate and lair,
Pretending that it wasn’t there.
Today, while walking home once more,
A brolga stalked me to my door.
Then, on the mat, and no mistake,
I found a pretty carpet snake.
Next, pressed against the carpet pile,
I saw a massive crocodile.
The message from them seemed quite clear.
“We will not simply disappear
Just because you will persist
In thinking that we don’t exist.”
So I apologised at once,
Agreeing that I was a dunce,
And all of them went on their way -
Quite an interesting day.

Amazing what one can encounter when out and about. Luckily you weren't walking kilometres, they are so hard to rhyme.

Love this, Stephen. Not only is it very easy and enjoyable reading, but I particularly like the lines that carry the message (We will not simply disappear Just because you will persist In thinking that we don’t exist ), as this of course can refer to so many things!

Love it Stephen ... very Lewis Carroll-ish with a great underlying message.
Another fabulous one for kids I reckon.
Cheers Shelley
