Climatic ... Maureen Clifford © The #ScribblyBark Poet

Winter is disappearing fast,
though truth to tell it lingered not
this year, the days were balmy, hot -
though nights were cold as the upshot
of snow down south at last.

In Queensland snakes are on the move
serpents silently slithering,
or coiled in sunlight, bodies warming
some stretched full length, ground conforming -
scales sinuous and smooth.

Tall grass trees, shiver, sway and shake
and shadows cast on frosty ground
have spears erect - we look around
for warriors, but none are found.
Such sights our legends make.

And nature's moods are quite diverse -
she titillates, teases and tricks;
five seasons in a day, she ticks
a challenge. And if one predicts
' change' to the Universe

there's those who'll taunt and try to say
that climate change is just a farce
their logic appears somewhat sparse...
until it kicks them up the arse
and then perhaps they'll pray.

That's a very interesting and innovative rhyme scheme, Maureen! Always love to see something inventive!

These are challenging prompts you've set for us! I'm stumped so far, but hope springs eternal! :?

Cheers
Shelley

Yeah good one Maureen, not too sure that people don't believe in climate change, a lot are still not sure exactly what is causing it...since it has been happening since the planet was formed, I think we might still have a bit of research to do yet before we can categorically state that we have any control over it....I reckon there might be a bit of climate influence happening in Bali at the moment..... :D

So true, Maureen - very good! As Shelley says, this is an innovative rhyme scheme that works well, and I like the way you've ended it, as that second to last line in particular was most unexpected!...I also love that third stanza about the shadows of the trees and 'looking around for warriors'.

Different but good Maureen

Ah Ross, the wrath of the greens will know no bounds mate.
How about over population and it's pollution being the biggest threat to the world?

Cheers

G'day Maureen, I am reminded of the old Anglo-Saxon poetry with its alliteration. I have a beaut poetry book with a translation of the ancient saga Boewulf, a version done by the Irish poet Seamus Heaney and it includes a marvellous alliteration scheme.

I'll stick to poetry reading and leave the climate change argument to someone else to sort out.

Thanks everyone - pleased you all seemed to find something in it  Climate change is on my mind a lot of late as I am sure it is with those poor unfortunates having their parade rained on as we speak. Mother Nature is a fierce combatant when she gets riles, and we humans have riled her up just a tad too much I am thinking.
