MARUKU - Belonging to dark

MARUKU - Belonging to dark ... Maureen Clifford © The #ScribblyBark Poet

One could hear on the breeze far off faint distant voices
softly rising and falling like calm ocean waves
whist singing the songs of the ancient ones choices.
Stories of the dreamtime - the painting of caves

Over hot desert sands - deepening shadows crept slowly
and lulled by the heat and the songs he had sung,
in the warmth one old man quietly dozed, softly mumbled -
dreaming of his hunting days when he was young.

And the rock she was silent she'd heard distant voices
o'er eons , she'd watched many moons wax and wane
and she'd heard the sharp call of the warrigals hunting
and the screams of their prey as they cried out in pain.

Deepening shadows crept in bringing shades of rich violet
and puce to the sandstone . Stars glittered the sky
like a diamond wrapped shawl round her red naked shoulders
and sensed was the touch of wingtips flying high.

Tjulpun-tjulpunpa froth and billow below her
flouncing out her skirts in a colourful hue
for the rains have been good and all round her has flourished
Kata Tjuta is beautiful - our Uluru.

There is - and it is such a shame that more people don't appreciate and embrace it :( Our country is unique in so many ways.
