SHADOWED ... Maureen Clifford © The #ScribblyBark Poet
Dark shadows moved. The moon and clouds slid into an abyss
of darkness - shock and awe was felt on earth
by primitive man, not understanding what had taken place
for he himself was new - a recent birth.
And speaking softly, touching, all were fearfull of the dark -
they dug cold toes into the river scree
and moaned, as the moon reappeared - What God had ordered this?
They clustered, viewing from beneath a tree.
Dark shadows move around the world - 'don't rain on my parade
let me regale your ears with my cutbacks
the world wide web will share them into each and every home -
these are in truth the alternative facts.'
And speaking softly never was an option - 'twas a shout
reverberated round the world that day,
and grown men cried and politicians trumbled*, women wept
as fear and angst sent ripples of dismay.
Dark shadows may yet pass along, the sun may yet shine out.
The world with bated breath now sits and waits.
One wrong move yet may see a monstrous cataclysmic change,
the outcome of which is causing debates.
And speaking softly - 'monkey see and monkey do' won't work
nor will the oft used 'not my clowns' - so trite.
But 'hoisted by his own petard' may yet come into play,
and steal in like a thief - a neophyte.
* Feb 2017 - White House press secretary Sean Spicer repeatedly mispronounced the Australian Prime Minister's name as "Trumbull" instead of Malcolm Turnbull.
