Hiking in the Mountains in Your Sneakers

Post by Stephen Whiteside » Sun Jan 08, 2017 11:10 am

On Boxing Day I headed off on a three day hike with my two adult children. We had a brilliant time, but my feet are only just recovering now. (My kids, incidentally, both wore stout boots, and had no problems with their feet.)

Hiking in the Mountains in Your Sneakers

Hiking in the mountains in your sneakers
Is asking for a hefty dose of pain.
You might think that they are right
Because they’re comfy and they’re light.
In reality, you’ll not make any gain.

Hiking in the mountains in your sneakers
Guarantees your feet will feel each rock.
Each little stone, or pebble,
Causes double pain, or treble,
Along the track from Feathertop to Loch.

Hiking in the mountains in your sneakers
Is highly detrimental to your soul;
To the deepest part of you,
But also to your shoe,
For it’s likely that your sole will gain a hole.

Hiking in the mountains in their sneakers
Is the sort of thing that losers like to do.
They think they’re being clever
In their misinformed endeavour
To save money, but they haven’t got a clue.

Wearing sneakers high up in the mountains
Smacks of lunacy, or something worse,
For your health starts down below.
You put on a tawdry show,
And you’ll end up being brought home in a hearse.

Hiking in the mountains in your sneakers
Creates a host of problems for your feet.
Be they blister or abrasion,
You should need no great persuasion
To buy some boots when next you’re down the street!

Better than thongs, though? (Of the foot variety!)

Only a hole in your soul, I suppose.

Thanks, Shelley.

I recall going to the Canarvon Gorge in Queensland and made the mistake of trying to do all the walks in one day.

A no no.

Sure found out where I had muscles where I never thought I had muscles.

Great walk, just have to do it in smaller doses.

Enjoyed the read Stephen.

Thanks, Merv. I'll file it away in the memory bank. Sounds like sound advice.
