Poor Paddy

Post by Bob Pacey » Thu Mar 17, 2011 3:39 am

POOR PADDY

The pub had not been open long
when paddy struggled in.
The tears flowed freely from his eyes
and dribbled down his chin.

The publican was most concerned
at Pats distressing state.
"Come in and sit and talk a while
Now what's the matter mate"?

Through the tears and sobs Pat blurted.
"Me ma in Irelands passed away
Me sister phoned this morning
and the funerals on today".

"Ah come now Pat just sit with me
and have this tot of rum".
"Just think of all the good times
that you had with your dear mum".

The rum and kind words settled Pat
and slightly worse for wear.
He staggered home to get some rest
his grief alone to bear.

But morning saw Pat back again
and looking grim no doubt.
"Ah come on Pat" the barman said
"I thought we had this sorted out.

"I was ok" Patrick replied.
"Sure things were going swell
But me brother called me up last night
and his ma's died as well".

Yes,oh yes, Bob. Love the Irish. Isn't it St Paddy's day today? Great poem.

Many years ago when I was looking after the Bourke Police Station, one of the aborigine blokes by the name of Ricky called me over and told me that it was his birthday. I checked with the custody record and sure enough it was his birthday, so I bought him a nice cake and a drink and some luxury items for his stay. The next day one of the others called me over
" It's my birthday to-day " .." No it's not " I said " You've been talking to Ricky "..... he just laughed. So did I.

G'day Bob,

when I heard this one they were a couple of blonde sisters. I guess we all can adapt a good joke to suit the occasion. Not saying that this is a good joke, but as I did smile, it can't be all that bad. I know, I'm a day late but better late than never.

Just like playing whispers Zondrae things get changed as they go from one person to the other. I get given a lot of material in the van park and sometimes it takes ages to chase up the author or just to get the joke right.

Posted my poem The Big Mistake and then had a traveller come up and start to tell me the same joke but a different version so nothing is sacred.

Cheers Bob
