WHITE ROSES

Post by Maureen K Clifford » Sat Jan 22, 2011 8:41 am

Disasters are not selective they hit the richest and the poorest - the up market areas and the lowest of the socio economic range. The cities and the country - none are impervious.

I crave indulgence this is not technically Bush Poetry though roses grown on bushes do they not? This is some of that dreaded free verse    that I wrote for another site in recognition of the volunteers who have turned out en masse across our country to help.

They are the average Australians - those who often have little to give but give their all - for they give themselves....they are truly white roses.

WHITE ROSES

Life sometimes reminds me of a game of monopoly. Welcome to the start.
Everyone starts out with an equal chance and the same rules to follow.
You can take the long way round – the safe route – it will get you there,
or you take the short cuts, the slippery dips. The highs and lows.

The celluloid reality of life is shown daily on screens across the world.
Tales from the golden ages fade into obscurity when you see the current affairs
the human race is engaged with on a daily basis. When did life become so hard?
Why did life become so hard? The yearning always for more I suspect has delivered less.

The brightest star often turns out to be one who has little in the way of property or wealth
but has much in terms of love and compassion and a willingness to share.
A black rose – beautiful and rare though it may be, would never be noticed in the darkness of night.
A simple white rose - unnoticed in the bright light of day, shines like a beacon in the blackest hours.

White roses bloom across my country this season – their very presence lifts ones spirits.

They are beautiful.

I may not always succeed in making a difference, but I will go to my grave knowing I at least tried.

Lovely Maureen, very poetic, no matter what form it was presented in.

Even the simple title, "White Roses" is elegant just by itself.
