End of Day

Well, another successful weekend down at Boyup Brook - great company, great poetry, and a wonderful atmosphere!!
There is something about the beautiful night sky down there - went from stinking hot the first night I was there, to quite chilly on the last night!! But the night sky is ever so wonderful, clear and beautiful!! Wrote this one night while I was meant to be going to sleep under the stars in the back of my ute - had to keep turning my mobile on to get light to write the lines!!

End of Day
© Irene Conner 16.0213

The silence speaks with silver sound
and yet no words are spoke.
it seeks to soothe a weary soul
and wrap me in it’s cloak.
The stars above illuminate
a pristine nighttime sky
and upward, on the gentle breeze
I feel my spirit fly.

I dance in perfect harmony
through stars that shine so bright
and ride the paths of shooting stars
that punctuate the night.
I tiptoe through the treetops
and I gently stir the leaves
then drift in search of nature sounds
to lift upon the breeze.

A rustle in the undergrowth,
a night birds cheeky call;
a leaf that trembles gingerly
touched by a gumnuts fall.
A frog that croaks in tandem with
a distant bleating sheep;
an orchestra that sings of peace
its audience can keep.

And as my spirit roams the night,
my weary eyelids close;
my body knows the day is done
and sinks into repose.
As nature sings its lullaby
and gentle breezes blow,
there is no better end to day
that I could ever know.

Worth staying up for - them's beautiful words Irene. You might want to fix a typo s//b bleating sheep, or bleeding sheep :lol: .

So glad you had an enjoyable weekend and sleeping under the stars in the back of the Ute - not a bad way to spend a night mate

Cheers

Maureen

Hi Irene,

Great poem

Irene wrote this as she says in the middle of the night, among other things she was waiting up for me to email my poem to her to be printed ready for the poets 1 minute bash next morning; I was in my van about 100 metres away with my laptop but had no printer.

Irene is one tough young lady, at the festival apart from having her swag in the back of her ute, she has her office in the front of it. In fact if it wasn't for Irene the WA bush poets would probably sink without a trace, she's the Secretary and the Editor of our monthly newsletter and numerous other things as well, hence the need to have her office with her. We also had a committee meeting while at Boyup Brook.

She also ended up being my chauffeur after I had starter motor trouble.

So once again thanks Irene

Terry

It always seemed at odds to me, a nightie clad Sheila in a swag in the back of a Ute and all the tough macho blokes inside their caravans sleeping with their doonas on a innerspring mattress.

But like Terry says one cracker jack lady that Irene Connor, your always in good company when your with Irene.

Good poem, I’ve been under that night sky along side Bills shearing shed.

TTFN 8-)

That's very good poem Irene.

Sounds like you are doing a great job with the bush poetry movement. You might need to show them how delegation works :) :roll: .
