Australia Unites

Post by Bob Pacey » Fri Jan 14, 2011 8:53 am

We can work together to beat this

Australia Unites

The whole of Queenslands under siege
Each mother, son and daughter
Thousands rally to the cause
To fight the surging water.

From Theodore to Jundah
They were singing out for rain
Now nature has delivered
And with it comes the pain.

When Dorothea Mackellar wrote
This wide brown land for me
I doubt she could envisage
Such a massive inland sea.

The McKenzie and the Dawson
In dry times run so low
From all across the outback
Into the mighty Fitzroy flow.

Theodore went under siege
Evacuation was the call
The town’s folk stand together
Helping neighbours one and all.

All throughout the Burnett region
The water shatters many dreams
And the rain just keeps on coming
The dams are bursting at the seams.

Toowoomba's reeling from the impact
Lives lost as waters surged
Many missing in the panic
As cars and houses lie submerged.

All throughout the Lockyer valley
Homes and lives are torn apart
All Australia feels their loss
And it’s tearing at our heart.

Young children torn from mothers arms
Such pain and tragedy intense
Against such a raging torrent
There can be no firm defence.

The Brisbane River shows its power
The city bursting at the seams
The force and power of water
Destroying hopes and dreams.

The SES and army
Stand right there at the front
Trough all the pain and heart ache
They are primed to take the brunt.

Our government is reeling
As this disaster runs its course
Roads and airways cut by torrents
As Mother Nature shows its force.

There are those who have lost loved ones
Our hearts sing out to them in pain
We feel their loss inside our souls
But our commitment will not wane.

For we are all Australians
And in times of tragedy stand tall
Normal people from all walks of life
Prepared to give their all.

Through all the pain and suffering
Australians rally side by side
As communities and strangers
Rise to fight the raging tide.

A nation build on mateship
Be it to stranger or to friend
Hand in hand we stand united
And we will fight this till its end.

The waters start receding
The damage now comes into view
To rebuild will not be easy
But together we can make it through.

And when the worse of this is over
We will rally round once more
For when Australians stand together
We make a very solid core.

Stand up and count your blessings
Help your neighbours, do your share
Together we can make this happen
Advance Australia Fair.

Good on you Bob that is a ripper- we are a trifle brown here at the moment - silly as it sounds a good shower of rain would be good - wash off the mud from the trees and grass. the smell is getting a bit high, had to use a double dose of deodorant today and a splash of "Beautiful" to mask it - it's not me - it's the stinking Mud. Keeping up appearances is so important and whilst I might look a bit feral I smell real good.

Cheers

Maureen
