The Bronze Swagman

Seeing Glenny pop up reminded me of another duh moment I had recently.

The Bronze Swagman
Leonie Parker © 2011

I’ll share a little story ‘bout the time I bathed in glory.
For a moment I was sure that I was up there with the best.
That bronzed bloke with his swag was never really in the bag
but though I didn’t win I thought I’d passed the litmus test.

I am in the new anthology and I’ll make no apology
for shameless self promotion I don’t often get the chance
to trumpet my achievements far too often it’s bereavements
for my competition entries that don’t get a second glance.

And I have to tell you when he had me listed next to Glenny
I thought I might explode, I had such swollen headed pride,
til I realised (pathetically) it’s listed alphabetically
and doesn’t mean we’re equal, just our names fit side by side.

... and congratulations to all the ABPA people in the anthology. I remember seeing David, Will, Zondrae, Terry and Glenny of course. Apologies to any I might have missed.

Leonie I'm really impressed that you are listed with Glenny, David, Will, Zondrae and Terry (& others you forgot). In fact, I'm impressed that you're all listed. Such clever little poets you all are.

Heather :)

Thanks for being impressed Heather. :D I have to admit I was chuffed to make it into the anthology on my first attempt (at that particular comp). It was a nice surprise too, because they sent me an email listing the winners but never mentioned the anthology, so when it arrived months later, it was like getting an early Christmas present.

The poem was The Brumby Man. I think I still have it out there in one more comp, but probably should put it to bed after that one, win lose or draw.

Yeah I reckon you should David J, yours are really up there with the best.

Thanks Neville and to Maureen for the applause and also thanks to Marty and Dave for calling me a nut (I think). It's ok fellas I know you mean it nicely (I think), :? . I am a nut, a Queensland Nut, none of that bloomin' Macadamia stuff for me, it's a Queensland Nut and it's yummy. Someone once told me I was yummy too, but that was a long long time ago, now they just say I'm a nut, oh well, them's the breaks. Better a nut than a sour grape, hey.

Macadamia nuts? Who mentioned macadamias? Did I ever tell you the story about how hubbie and I almost went into partnership with my parents to buy a macadamia farm? We thought we should combine the two family names "Jensen" and "Eitel" and add a catchy little slogan. However, Mum didn't seem keen on being associated with the name. Wot's wrong with ... "Jenital Farms - We Grow Big Nuts"??? :o  ;)

Smack, smack, SMACK!!!!
