Another old Christmas poem

Post by Leonie » Wed Dec 08, 2010 7:47 pm

I found an old one lurking in the depths of my computer too, so here it is, just the way it was written, back before I knew you shouldn't use capitals at the beginning of every line and stressed and unstressed syllables, were a mystery. Who am I kidding? They still are.

Christmas Tree
Leonie Parker © Friday, 14 November 2008

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree,
What have the hell you done to me.
Pine needles all across the floor;
I don’t think I can take much more.

Those Christmas bells you held, so sweet,
Have now all fallen at your feet.
And last years lights so fresh and bright
Refuse to light the dark tonight.

Those glitter covered tinsel balls
Are lovely but the glitter falls
On everything, sticks to my dress.
That glitter makes an awful mess.

I made fake snow from little beans
Just like some winter Christmas scenes.
But you refuse to hold the snow
And we know where that snow will go.

So now I have snow in my hair
On every table, every chair.
There’s snow where snow just shouldn’t be,
There’s even snow on my TV.

Oh Christmas Tree; Oh Christmas Tree
I offer up this silent plea.
If I don’t swear will that suffice?
Will Santa know and think I’m nice?

The radio plays Christmas tunes.
The decorations have balloons
In Christmas colours red and green
As pretty as I’ve ever seen.

There’s presents underneath the tree.
I think there’s even one for me,
All wrapped in foil so shiny bright.
I just can’t wait for Christmas night.

The stocking’s hung the lights are lit.
We’ve cleaned the snow up quite a bit.
We’re sitting down to share a drink.
And life is good, that’s what I think.

Oh Christmas Tree; Oh Christmas Tree
You really are a joy to see.
Now we’re all filled with Christmas Cheer;
Let’s do it all again next year.

Hi Leonie,
That sounds like my Christmas tree...every year it sheds more and more of its "fake" foliage! When it gets to the 'wire' I will get a new one!
Cheers

G/day Leonie,
It may be an early one but the Leonie, Trueblue, etc, we all know still shines through.

Cheers Terry

Thanks Leonie...
To paraphrase what Terry said:

The real Trublu
shines through! :D

Cheers, Will.
