A High Country Poem

As I sit astride my horse’s back and view the icy scene,
The countryside is silent, it is peaceful and serene.
I’ve got about a mile to ride, an icy creek to ford,
But I’m feeling quite an awful pain that cannot be ignored.
I’ve got to get down from the horse and let it all run free –
Being stuck here in the cold has made me want a pee!

Originally submitted as a homework poem for the Illawarra Bush Poets weekly topic. That particular week, it was a painting of a rider on a horse in a high country snow scene and you had to write to that theme.

Yes, we get the same problem sailing. It's something about putting your wetsuit on that seems to put the whole process in motion!

Not quite what I expected from you John.

Go before you get in the wet suit on your horse you sillies! Duh!

Waders when you are fishing in the surf have the same effect Stephen !!!! Just have to grin and bear it.

I am sure that it has something to do with the environment around being wet, cold or both. Even if you have been before putting a wetsuit/waders on, you seem to need to go at a sooner time than normal. Like Bob, I am familiar with waders - though in my case it is normally in trout streams with blackberry-lined banks. Never tried a wetsuit though.

Heather - I wish it was that simple. Trouble is, you don't THINK you need to go. Then you put your web-suit on, and realise you're going to be trapped out on the water for a few hours, and you're suddenly not so SURE. So you go back and take your wetsuit off, and find you were right the FIRST TIME. So you put it back on again, but you've still got a bit of a nagging feeling, because you were starting to run a bit late by the time you'd got it off the second time, and you were a bit rushed...

Well I know one thing for sure - I'm not getting in any swimming pool with you lot - eewww!
