Eucalyptus re-growth at Mount Disappointment.

I visited Mount Disappointment with Maggie Somerville today. It was so named by Hume and Hovell. They were expecting their first glimpse of the southern Australian coast from this peak but were, alas, disappointed.

The Black Saturday fires swept through this area in 2009. The eucalyptus re-growth is very striking.

I also like this shot of Maggie in the centre of a field of sun-drenched bracken.

Great to see the forest coming back nicely.

Apparently Hume and Hovell's relationship was not a good one. They continuously fought - at one stage they disagreed on which route to take so they split up, arguing over who took what they cut a tent in half and fought over a frying pan until it broke with one taking the pan and the other the handle.

Well, they had a fairly stressful life. Maybe they would have got on better if they'd been able to just lie in the sun at Surfers' all day.

Can understand the stress . . . lived in a few human hovels in my time ;)

Same. Never torn the handle of the fry-pan, though.
