TOOLANGI – CJ DENNIS FESTIVAL
This preliminary report from Toolangi comes from Jim Brown of the CJ Dennis Society...

"The C.J. Dennis went very well and seems to have been enjoyed by all who attended. Despite some modifications because of the weather, the feedback has been heartwarming.
Highlights-The “Glugs of Gosh” concert was a unique and unforgettable cultural event,
The standard of the winning poetry entries was superb.
The bush poets breakfast and open mike sessions were great.
The poetry books produced by Daan Spijer are high quality and would be a great asset to anyone’s poetry collection. They are available for $10 each plus postage, but all this and more will be explained with a fuller summary of the event soon.
Bear with us- we need time to recover.
In the meantime, here (see our ABPA Facebook Page) is a photo of Shelley Hansen who took out the third 'Marian Mayne Trophy' for the second time, and the first winner of the trophy, David Campbell who was the judge for 2017.”
Congratulations to all.

Thank you Terry, and Stephen also for the report. We've now arrived home from our Victorian holiday - back in sunny, hot Queensland!

It was such an unexpected thrill for me to win the Marian Mayne trophy for the second year running. David - thank you so much for bestowing this award on me. I will send my poem My Name's Doreen through to Brenda for the website in the next couple of days. I wrote it to celebrate the 100th anniversary of CJ Dennis' collection Doreen, and it tells some of the story of The Sentimental Bloke from her perspective.

Congratulations to all of the other successful poets - hearing the winning entries read out was such a delight.

Thank you also to Daan Spijer for awarding me 3rd prize in the short story - another unexpected delight!

What a rare privilege it was to hear Ruth Aldridge recite the complete Doreen collection, followed by an outstanding and quirky costumed performance (in character) of The Glugs of Gosh by members of the CJD Society. Fun, frivolity and fabulous poetry in the most beautiful surroundings of The Singing Garden, enjoying fine food prepared by Jan Williams and her team - who could ask for more?

Cheers
Shelley

Congratulations Shelley and Congrats to organisers of this popular weekend. Sounds like it was great again.
Makes me jealous and sad that we were unable to attend.
