Hello all,
Towards a show being devised for the January 2016 Sydney Festival, Warren Fahey AM (Cultural Historian, Writer and Performer) has asked for a list of poems "...that mention favourably or unfavourably Sydney town."

Can we start a list here of both classical and modern poems that do this so that I can then pass on to Warren?

Thanks for your help
Hal

Les Murray - Sydney and the Bush is a good one and Henry Kendall's Sydney Harbour although it is a bit pompous in tone IMO. Mark O'Connor did a series of poems for the Olympic Games in Sydney but I can't recall the titles - there was one for Ian Thorpe - don't know if they would be any good to you.

he vowed he'd never leave that spot
till Oscar pinched his a...

But Oscar was a cunning boy
he threw the lad a plum
and when he went to pick it up
he pinched him on the B..
