Sorry everyone, I've removed this story as I'm entering it into a short story competition.

A good story Dave,
it takes a bit to get me goinng in a long yarn but it grabbed me right from the start. We too found plenty to do 'down the crik' when I was a young fella. Lots of wildlife. We collected lots of eggs but never 'adopted' any birds. We did have a joey or two and once had two fox pups, and many a dog followed us home and never left again.

Reminds me of the story about the two young blokes who were asked by the English teacher what they had been doing for the holidays. " We bin playing down by the creek sticking crackers up the toads bums and setting them off " replied Bill. The teacher though disgusted saw an opportunity for an english lesson.

"Rectum, Bill she corrected "that should be Rectum".

"Wrecked em" replied Bill "fair blew their brains out Miss" !!!!

Yes a good yarn and read

Cheers Bob

G'day/ Dave.

A good yarn mate with a moral to it, like a fable.

Remember the lion with a thorn in the paw, who further on down the track, wouldn't attack the young man who pulled the thorn out.

You envoke and weave certain gentleness throughout the story.

You also created scenic imagery along the boys excursions.

Regards,

John

Thanks Frank, though this is fiction I do remember playing down at the creek then copping it from Mum because we were wet & muddy, also had the odd stray dog follow us home to.

Thanks Bob, yep!...remember that story to, & 'blowing up' toads, ants nests, tying crackers to the cats tail, hehehe!!

Thanks John, glad you enjoyed the read & again I remember the thorn in the Lions paw story.
