Found it stop looking

Post by Bob Pacey » Sat May 14, 2011 7:32 am

Found it on an old usb stick from when my old computor went down.

I Don't Go Shearin' Now

I shore along the Bidgee in the good old roaring days
An' rung the shed at Tubbo, next pen to Smacker Hayes
Oh' strike how I love it the campin' in the fogs
Within hearin' of the hobble chains an' croaking of the frogs.
I'd like again to face it as in the days of Jacky Dow
But my bones are gettin' ancient an' I don't go shearin' now.

To me 'twas sweetest music, oh, the clink of hobble chains,
The rattle of the quart pots in our journey o'er the plains,
When the men from cold Monaro, an' the boys from Dandaloo
Sought shearin' on the Bogan an' along the parched Paroo,
With hack an' packhorse baggage did we mooch along somehow,
'Twas fun that bloomin'' hardship - but I don't go shearin' now.

Oh' yes I am a battler of the old time shearin' push,
We humped Matilda often o'er the plain lands an' the bush,
When voices fraught with freedom came a-murmurin' on the trees,
An' gladsome shearin' tidings then were wafted on the breeze,
I'd love again to bustle on the board with Jackie Howe,
But hang the combs an' cutters, boys, I can't go shearin' now.

Well, no I've never shore 'em with machine and twistin' gear,
To me it's all a jumble an' a rumble mighty queer,
The boss, he cannot chip you 'cept he hollers in your ear,
An' that is not too pleasant if his voice is full of beer;
my tally board is empty an' there's wrinkles on my brow,
An' though I'd like to face it boys, I don't go shearin' now.

I always go a-shearin' ( in my fancy ) every year,
An' can't shake off the longin' when the time is drawin' near,
But soon I 'spect I'll wander where the shearin' never ends,
Along that golden river where there's naught but peace attends,
Bit, strike me, how I'd love to strut across the board an' bow,
Once more to clip the wool off, but I don/t go shearin' now.

Just got to find the author now ?
