Something new, fascinating and profound

Post by Stephen Whiteside » Fri Feb 06, 2015 9:59 am

I would love to start a thread here with something new, profound and fascinating to say about poetry, but I feel it has all been said - and many times.

Having said that, it does occur to me that we are always having General Poetry discussions. We never have Field Marshall Poetry discussions. Then again, we could always work our way down through the COs and NCOs until we had Private Poetry discussions. This would have the great advantage of alliteration, but the enormous disadvantage that, if the discussions were taking place in public, as they would have to be, of course, they would no longer be Private.

Hmm. Life is so tricky sometimes...

I often wonder if there are pangs of envy felt towards the much more popular General Chit Chat. Did they come through the ranks together?

Not sure, Marty, but I suspect they both spend far too much time drinking, smoking, and reflecting on past (largely imagined…) glories.

It's traditional for retired generals to seek political preferment, president if they can ( Caesar, Titus, Cromwell, Wellington, Washington, Grant, Eisenhower, de Gaulle et al) in Australia the Governor General is a former army general.

Yeees, reminiscing about when General ChitChat was seen as a bit of a Joke, before General Poetry started looking resplendent in those significant threads . . .
