Good to see you catching up with CJ Marty. Try his poem An Old Master. I think you will love it.

				G'day Marty,
Unfortunately (maybe that is a bad choice of words) CJ is mainly known for his 'Bloke' style of poems - but his body of work is vast and covers many styles. I admit I have read little of the 'other' style but have collected many of the little illustrated books of the 'better known' style. Please forgive all the '-' and (-) but I can't think of any other way to get across what I wish to say.

CJ was very clever and I think is probably an acquired taste. When I was a kid I loved listening to the poems of CJ Dennis on a record my mother had. I'm not overly familiar with most of his work but I can still hear voice reciting The Play on that record. It really captured me. I heard the poem at Morisset last week but the voice I still hear is the one on that record even though I haven't heard it for umm, quite some time.

That's a very interesting comment Marty. I have had a similar experience with a number of poems and poets that in the past didn't mean much to me. I think it shows that you are progressing, someone called it the "aha" moment, when what you have been struggling with starts to become clear.
How do you get there ? I don't know, is there a psychologist in the house ?

Sounds good though.

Yeah Marty - with you - but if you read nothing else in your life - read 'The Glugs of Gosh' - a truly remarkable work that stands the test of time - I read it to the family on Saturday night and we could still find so much relevance to today...

Did you mean Heather, he's under the influence.

Hully, I have a complete copy of the Glugs of Gosh. I struggle with it. I think I don't know enough about the political/social scene of C.J.Dennis's time to see the connections.

I will try not to make a habit of it, but I must agree with Neville here.
