Manfred you are going from bad to worse. It aint a bad song and I must admit I enjoy the chorus but there are barely any lines that rhyme. It is worse than free verse from a technical point of view because it is full of bad rhymes, appalling lyrics and every possible cliche.
I think Ian Mudie's poem is a total work of art compared to this song.

Tell that to the masses next Australia Day ... besides, it's a lyric and you don't need perfect rhyme in a lyric; at least in this one, nobody needs to get killed to prove they're Australian ...

Agree with Manfred, partial rhymes are the norm for song lyrics. Agree with Vic - ordinary song with way too much tired cliche.
Mudies is different - I'd never read it before, I'll sit on it and go back.

Why don't you need perfect rhyme in a lyric? Of course you do , in fact it used to be frowned on in Tin Pan Alley to produce a song with bad rhyme. Now we are lucky if we get a song with more than four lines that are mindlessly repeated and no MUSIC only electronically produced noise!
One of the most recorded and performed songs in the world, Moonlight in Vermont, is one of the few songs, that I know of, that is intentionally written without rhyme and it remains a beautiful song.

Good on you Marty. I am sure you will enjoy the poem and probably find some references in it to our folk lore and history that will make you think. Even now there are a couple of things in it I am not to sure about. Should mention that Ian Mudie wrote most of his poetry with rhyme and metre.

You must be reading it wrong Vic I can see heaps of rhymes and slight rhymes but it flows and rambles along.

Bob, if you are talking about Moonlight in Vermont there are no rhymes and to make it even better the first two lines of each verse are haiku!
