CAN I HELP YOU ?

There is no need to panic
no need to faint from fear.
Try not to shrink in terror
from who is ruling here.
Just answer all the questions
and fill the proper form,
and keep your gaze away from looks
you're sure are filled with scorn.
Keep check on raw emotions,
try not to burst in tears,
she might not be the sentry
of steel as she appears.
So you just hold your ticket,
your turn is on the list,
don't move until you're summoned
by Ms Receptionist.

Oh, well done. Neville - a completely different and unexpected take! I enjoyed reading this - and confess that I once started crying with nerves as I waited in a dental surgery...(yes, as an adult - dentists remain one of my biggest fears!)

...the person who hands out the invoice as you leave the dentist is the scary one...

Hi Neville

Good one, a story of everyone's fears at times.
and as Ross said, they don't come much scarier than the Dentists bill,
with the possible exception of seeing the Dentists themselves.

Cheers

Terry

Very clever Neville - completely out of left field for that one - well done

Oh, so true, Neville!

Years ago the head receptionist at our doctor's surgery was so intimidating, I used to dread every visit. From demanding in a loud voice that you describe your symptoms to her in front of a waiting room of people, and then diagnosing you before you even saw the doctor, to dictating how many children you should have (and speculating on why you weren't pregnant at that very moment), to patronisingly dismissing older folk in particular ... she was a nightmare!

Mmm - I've just had a thought - she would be old herself now. Wonder how it feels?

Your poem sent the hairs up on the back of my neck! Great left-field take on the prompts.

Cheers
Shelley
