As per Terry's suggestion I based this along the lines of 'The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe
PONDERING ... Maureen Clifford © The ScribblyBark Poet
It is dry here in the city and indeed it is a pity
for my backyard Jacaranda's leaves are falling by the score.
But whilst for myself I'm saddened, I can say my heart was gladdened
when I read upon my Facebook page that Blackall got a pour.
Wasn't much but it was something - it was far from a drownpour
but beautiful and well worth waiting for.
Hear the cry of curlew's wailing, and their high pitched sounds impaling
both my eardrums as I seek sleep, though I doubt that they are near
For there's little land around me, and there's no bush to surround me
and curlews face a dire future with development I fear.
For developers are vandals and their big machines I fear.
I find their little boxes somewhat drear.
We have hard times in my country, blackened paddocks filled with burnt trees
stark reminder of the hardships Mother Nature sends our way
whilst our kids faced with a future bleeding out without a suture
are protesting on the streets around Australia today -
they are marching, shouting, hurting in Australia today
Arrested, charged and caught in the affray.
Once they wrought with pick and shovel, for a bare living they'd grovel ...
migrant miners in our country, sinking shafts and seeking coal.
Now they blast with detonators, and they frack causing the haters
to protest with righteous vehemence the selling of our soul
they've sold our country outright, and along with it her soul
no thought for other Aussies - greed their goal.
Sometimes to give distraction from my immense dissatisfaction
I must take myself away from it and head out to the bush;
clear some ground and gather timber, letting my old sad mind wander
whilst the billy tea is brewing, the dry leaves turning to mush
I am wondering if politicians take note of the push
of words or do they simply them airbrush?
