Homework October - Other dreams

Other Dreams

I’ve fudged a bit here by pinching a few lines from a Homework poem I’ve just written for Bush Verse – this still needs a bit more to make sense really. (it's a bit mushy!)

Near forgotten memories of youth, return to me again,
of a creek that’s lined with Ghost Gums on an arid rocky plain.
Hills seen in the distance beckon as they come now into view -
and the peaceful silence of that country; I remember too.

Stock are facing west into the wind as rain is on the way;
it’s the first time now for many years, or so old timers say!
Then at last we see, this bone-dry creek run muddily once more
bringing precious soaking water to this arid place once more

But this dream is just to rid my mind of sadness from the past,
that will haunt me now forever, and the pain will always last.
I have tried to move on from those days, and get on with my life,
yet I know I’ll not forget the girl; I’d hoped would be my wife.

Resting now at home again, so far away from outback dreams,
I am thinking of more precious things; recalling other dreams
There’s a faded letter in my hand - a curl of golden hair
And again I’m fighting back a tear, and dream of you sweet Claire

Not mushy at all Terry - but a good mix of descriptive and emotive!

Not mushy Terry - it is lovely, and what pray tell is wrong with mushy anyway  Nothing at all wrong with you blokes sharing a little softness and sentimentality from time to time you know , in fact it actually ' ups' you in a females estimation when you do.

I think your poem is quite delightful.

Hi Maureen
I just had to get that heart wrenching prompt - 'A faded letter and a curl of golden hair' in there somewhere.

In the movie Dead Poets' Society, Robin Williams tells his class that the purpose of poetry is to get girls. Is Maureen right.
