Grandma

The mist has thickened, for the night is still,
and fog lights twinkle on a distant hill.
And grandma humming as she toils away,
Preparing bacon bones for soup today.

Our favourite gran with her snow-white hair-
the warmest smile for us that's always there.
We’re huddled snuggly by the old wood fire,
with bed socks on for warmth when we retire.

The smell of garlic bread wafts all around,
it’s sadly not for us, or so we’ve found.
It’s for grownups when they arrive to dine,
washed down by lots of scotch and ginger wine.

Save me a place I'm on my way  Lovely use of the prompts Terry - full of the warm fuzzies and hugs as your words paint a warming picture of life in simpler times - I would love to have a wood stove again.

Yes, this is lovely Terry, and as always paints a clear picture - this time of the night and the comfort and cosiness inside with those delicious cooking smells!

Thanks Maureen and Catherine.

As I mentioned in my reply to Catherine I wondered what would eventuate with this set of prompts.

I grew up in the days when everybody had a wood stove in our neck of the woods.
My grandmother was always cooking, apple pies, biscuits, cakes etc. as kids we loved going there.
Mind you she probably didn't know anything about garlic bread in those days, and there's no way she would have dished out scotch and green ginger wine either.

That's a good one Terry. Good idea to relate home cooking to grandma. My grandma cooked amazing sponge cakes in the wood fire oven.

Thanks Neville

Sounds like your grandmother was a bit like mine - I guess we both come from the same era.

Nothing like Grandma's cooking - or in my case, Mum's, as I didn't know either of my grandmothers.

But I did inherit my maternal grandmother's recipes, combined with my mothers - and this afternoon have just been making a batch of cumquat marmalade! Definitely a therapeutic activity!

Cheers
