homework 15/4 The world has more fools

Post by Neville Briggs » Sat Apr 13, 2019 9:32 am

THE WORLD HAS MORE FOOLS

Solemnly and honourably
The members take their places.

Before they put the legislative
Process through its paces,
With proper formal gravitas
They pray to God on high;
Humbly seeking godly guidance
On the Parliament thereby.

“ Forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those
who trespass against us “

Forbid it ! that such pious ranks
Would seethe with acrid grievance
And plan with honourable intent
The way to wreak their vengeance.

Do they really pray for guidance - I somehow doubt it but perhaps some do. Methinks they would be praying not to get caught out in their many misdemeanours but then that would be cynicism in the extreme  I like your capture of thoughts though Neville - well done.

The parliamentary speaker in the set piece says that the prayer is for guidance. It always clangs on me when I hear them repeating the words about forgiveness, when the news that we hear depicts parliamentarians going to law suits and acting in a way that looks like pay back.
Do I really need to give examples.
