Homework WE 14/1/19 - HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL

Post by Shelley Hansen » Sat Jan 05, 2019 2:32 pm

A bit of good old fashioned doggerel to start the new year! While tongue-in-cheek, it is partly true. Looking back over my output of poems for the past 12 months, I'm afraid it's about 50% less than my usual yearly effort. Lots of reasons, of course.

HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL
(c) Shelley Hansen 5/1/19

They say hope springs eternal when you’re putting pen to paper,
for poets are supposed to have a “Muse”
who feeds them words of wisdom, or some other sort of caper,
at any time of day or night they choose.

But sometimes when I try my best to set the “cells” in motion –
instead of hearing music of the spheres
my thoughts are more akin to lots of noisy birds’ commotion!
But is it in my head, or in my ears?

My errant Muse has taken off on unapproved vacation –
perhaps she’s camped with Terry, digging gold,
or gone down south to Neville for some rest and relaxation –
or out in Ippy, snug in Maureen’s fold!

Could eBay be the place to go to buy recycled Muses?
I can’t afford the risk attached to that!
I’ve simply got to wait and hope till inspiration chooses
improvement on “the cat sat on the mat”.

The poem will turn up when it wants to be written. :)

Your muse is not here Shelley  I have enough problems with my own who never shuts up  Love your witty take on this - you made excellent use of the prompts, and I totally agree with Neville

I may not always succeed in making a difference, but I will go to my grave knowing I at least tried.

Thanks Neville and Maureen

Of course you are completely correct - and I'm sure the poetry will come in its own good time. I suppose most of us have "dry" times (except you Maureen, with your chatterbox Muse!)

Cheers
