h/work for w/e 26.11.18 ....NEVER GO BACK

I am posting this for Terry Piggott who is having some computer issues at the moment...

Never Go Back ... © T.E. Piggott

“You don’t remember me now, do you Bill?” she gently asked that day;
her voice though hadn’t changed, despite the years I’d been away.
Like me those years had taken toll, and yet, her beauty still peeped through;
again, I saw the image of the young girl I once knew

Old memories resurfaced, of past days of grief and sadness too,
when old friends gathered gladly; for their love was deep and true.
How could I possibly forget, those lovely blue eyes filled with tears;
that tearful vision haunted me throughout the passing years.

Her tears were not for me that day, although I may have wished they were;
yet I would only ever be, “the dearest friend to her.”
The loss of someone precious to her then, had caused the tears to flow
and shut herself away from friends - the time had come to go.

I never had forgotten her although all contact had been lost,
when friendships end it seems, there’s always bound to be a cost.
A lifetime had now passed us by before we’d met today again,
perhaps I should have stayed, but sense it would have been in vain?
