How Long Is Forever?

How Long Is Forever?

He wonders does forever last a lifetime – do things change,
and how long is forever; that’s the thing he’d like to know?
And is it possible to sometimes later rearrange,
so things can be forgiven that had happened long ago?

Or is he seeking now forgiveness, though there’s none deserved,
for things we shall not speak about; for best that’s left alone,
still dressed in darkness of the past; things known but not observed,
and hidden yet from prying eyes - his own sad twilight zone.

This subterfuge had been a work in progress now for years,
a secret he alone must know, and never tell a soul.
The price he pays is never ending - cloaked in secret fears,
the burden that he carries - still continues to take toll.

Oh Terry! I can feel the sadness and regret in this. I like these analogies ... dressed in darkness of the past and cloaked in secret fears

This is a little different from your usual style, sometimes less is more and it's good to mix things up from time to time. I found it to be nicely crafted as well. An enjoyable read - but yours always are

Well done you

Thanks Maureen

I sometimes think that it’s a good idea to – for want of a better word – ‘escape,’ from the normal routines, thoughts and ideas we normally use when we write.
It’s like setting ourselves free to look and think outside our norm, it may not always work but it tends to stimulate our minds with possibilities – well does mine, and it can be fun.

Cheers Terry

Thanks Shelley

I just realized that I'd used prompts from October 2 / 2017

But you two ladies were too polite to ask me what the hell I was writing about.
It was only after reading both your poems the penny dropped that something wasn't right here.

No problem, Terry ... and I’m sure Maureen would agree with me that all contributions to the writing workshop are very welcome, whatever the subject!

Your mistaken prompts is partly my fault, as although I can lock the topic, I can’t discover how to make the latest prompts remain at the top of the page. Maureen has talked to me about it, and hopefully later today I am getting a lesson from our web administrator David. Then it should be easier for all writing workshop participants.

Cheers
