A bit of fun ... but I think I should apologise in advance - this has got to be a close to doggerel as it gets! But you set the prompts, Maureen, so you have to take some responsibility for this!!! ;)

RECIPE FOR ROMANCE

(c) Shelley Hansen 1/9/18

When searching for some floral speech to keep your romance young
you must ensure each synonym rolls smoothly off the tongue.
If she's a "kitchen goddess", then the best that you can do
is write her out a recipe, and spice a word or two.

Enthuse about the passages of thyme since first you met,
when cool as a cutecumber, she was playing "hard to get".
You felt a total fruit cake with her sister and your mate,
containing your excitement on that tentative blind date.

Be careful that you don't include "plump pudding" in your speech,
or if you do, make sure you keep yourself well out of reach!
"As light as grandma's sponge" would be a better turn of phrase
to bolster up her ego. earn you brownie points for days!

If you can choose correctly all the words she'd like to hear
just sauté them with love, and whisper softly in her ear.
Your words will carry wisdom if you garnish them with sage -
a dash of salt preserving timeless truths that never age.
