Homework w/e 18th June - Sad Goodbye
The death knell came, we knew it would but not the way we thought.
No blast of trumpets shook the earth, no angel throngs distraught.
Instead with sounds like shrieking gulls, the great white crane swung 'round
and razed our loved and ancient church so neatly to the ground.
Sadly our beautiful old church built in 1912 is being sold.
As it is next door to the Williamtown RAAF base, it is prime land.
Past generations gifted it to us and now it is to be sold.

Well that is a completely different spin on things - well done - great use of the prompts. Shame about the old church thogh - pity it couldn't have been moved.

It's a sign of the times we live in Wendy, few seem to care about our past.
or the relevance of many wonderful old buildings or even of our pioneers.
You have shown here that you don't need to write a big essay, to make your point well.
Cheers Terry

Another piece of history gone!
Love the "white crane" interpretation - straight out of left field.
Well done Wendy!
Cheers

Excellent Wendy - a demolishing crane never even crossed my mind, so as always I do admire that 'left field' thinking - well done indeed! I have experienced the demolishing of an old and beloved church too, so can relate. Although it was from my childhood and therefore many moons ago, even now I still mourn the loss of such a beautiful and historic building destroyed.

We miss the old symbols. I've seen church buildings converted to Hindu temples, mosques, housing, art galleries and a clothing shop, which is food for thought. Then again if we note the apostle Paul's words ( Acts 17, v24 if you want to look it up ) the building doesn't really matter, the connection and life of the people is what matters.

I agree Nev, we are the church....not the building.
But it is sad to see a piece of history gone for no
other reason than for the money it will
bring in.
