homework week ending 28/5 Haiku

Post by Neville Briggs » Wed May 23, 2018 4:16 pm

I've attempted a Haiku. Harder than you might think.

Two young with rapt gaze
A striped blue and red love seat
A ring reflects light.

They are Neville but you have done well - quite a charming picture you have painted with your words - I love Haiku :D

Good one, Neville! I've never attempted Haiku - and I admit the concept confuses me a little, but I appreciate any grouping of words that conjures up a picture for me ... and yours certainly does.

Cheers

As I understand it Shelley, the concept is simply three lines, First line 5 syllables, second line 7 syllables and third line 5 syllables. Rhyming or regular metre is optional.
But the main idea I think is to state concrete images not abstract statements. The sense of the emotion or feeling of the moment is intended to come from a description of material objects in the environment. ( I think )

So I think doing Haiku is a worthwhile task for bush poets even if only for practice ,because it requires a hard think about how encountering the world of experience translates into poetic expression. As distinct from merely adding adjectives to try and make a statement about experience. The poet shows the experience with a concrete image. If you know what I mean

Hi Neville
I've only ever written one or two of these - must give it a go again one day.
You have done well with yours,

Terry
