Beautifully crafted Marty - the only nit pick I would have with it is A blanket crimson red and that only because crimson and red are in effect the same I reckon you could ditch the red - to retain the metre you could perhaps use something like

A blanket crimson now covers all of that tortured ground
or
A blanket shaded crimson appears o'er the tortured ground

Just a thought - but WOW what a magnificent write - well done
