Homework w/e 13/08/12 - Queen of the Rings

Post by Maureen K Clifford » Tue Jul 31, 2012 10:09 am

Queen of the Rings

She dived head first out of the plane, her dress and arms were flapping
and down below three dogs waited, and young Willow was yapping.
The rings she wore on both her hands sparkled in bright sunlight
she heard the cheers of crowds below – and knew it was alright.

When James had stood beside her desk and asked Your Majesty
would you consider trusting your life to the likes of me?
Try jumping from ten thousand feet to your green lands below
and landing in the stadium – now that would be a show.’

Dear James her Majesty replied I have no hesitation
in taking up your offer for the welfare of this nation
If you believe our Athletes will achieve some inspiration
from a monarch plummeting downwards then you have my affirmation.

And so it was – she had decreed – and thus upon the day
London hosted the games that Queen Liz put on her display.
Quite different from the usual stately pomp and ceremony.
Today she was skydiving with James Bond for all to see.

There were Toffs in Toppers watching, and the Aussies stood in awe
there were gasps and cries from all the crowd and photographs galore.
The organizers held their breath for fear of a disaster
but not to fear James Bond was near, a trained able drill master.

She landed in a dainty flurry of silk petticoats
this was the first time really she’d a chance to sow her oats.
That was great fun James, thank you she was quietly heard to say
perhaps you’ll take me up again when you have time one day.

And like the monarch that she is, she straightened up her skirt,
ensured her feathered hat was on, brushed off a bit of dirt.
Then placed her handbag on her arm and calmly walked the field
to sit beside her Greek God. A brave Queen will never yield.

Now let the games begin she said we’re passionate ‘bout sport
and fair play is an adage that each British child is taught.
We’ve a good natured sense of fun, you’ll find our humours best,
and national pride we have in spades – it beats in every breast.

And so the games began as our Monarch did decree
and nations watched and nations cheered – all was as it should be
apart from the odd hiccup but on that here we won’t dwell
for over all I reckon Liz and James did very well.
